My Way to SAVANNAH
There have always been cats and dogs in my house. They were mostly mongrel creatures. I will not hide that I have always liked dogs more than cats. Dogs love openly and for show, and cats are not dependent creatures, they never showed their feelings, only purred in moments of good mood.
One day, when I came to visit a friend, I saw a miracle and my world turned upside down. His cat ran up to him and began rubbing against his leg, purring at the same time. He bent down and stroked her, and she bit his hand in response, expressing her feelings. I looked at this incredibly beautiful cat that looked like a little leopard and I was filled with envy for its owner. I wanted the same one. That’s how I saw the F1 Savannah for the first time.
I,ve been looking for her for a long time.
There are very few of them and therefore it was difficult to find her in Russia. Finally, I was Lucky? and l became the happy owner of the very cherished F1 Savannah. It was a girl. Her dark yellow body was torn by black spots. This one was my pet mini leopard. She had her own strict character, did not allow liberties, but l managet to melt her half-wild heart, and she fell in love with me. Since then, there has never been a happier person than me. I was walking home after work and my heart was beating joyfully in anticipation of meeting my favorite. I opened the door of the house, and she rushed to me as the only creature she loved. She purred loudly, purred, bit me, trying in every way to show her love. She could climb on my ntck and hug it with her body instead of a scarf, lie there. I was happy.
After a few years of having such happiness, l realized that l was doing wrong, enjoying joy alone. Only the one who gives joy to other peole is truly happy. And I decided to bring people love for Savannah.
SAVANNAH
a little bit about the origin of savannah
The Savannah breed. The Savannah breed appeared as a result of crossing a wild African serval and a domestic cat.
The first Savannah F1 cat was born on April 07, 1986 to breeder Judy Frank as a result of a random crossing of a male Serval and her Siamese domestic cat. This day can be safely considered the day of the Savannah.
But from the moment of the birth of the first cat to its recognition as a separate breed in TIKA, another long 10 years have passed.
The main work on writing the breed standard and registering it in TIKA was carried out by Patrick Kelly and Joyce Srouf. It is to them that we owe the birth of this beautiful cat.
In 2001, thanks to many more people, Savannah was finally registered as a recognized cat breed. Today, this breed is presented not only as a hybrid of a wild serval and a domestic cat, but also a “pure” Savannah breed has appeared, in whose pedigree relatives are only savannahs up to and including the fourth generation. Such cats are designated by the abbreviation SBT (Stud Book Traditions)psum dolor sit amet, at mei dolore tritani repudiandae.
Savanna cats have the incredible grace and dignity of their wild ancestors, African servals. They have characteristic black spots covering their golden or silver fur, and they are valued for their intelligence, beauty, friendliness.
Their appearance is unique, it includes large, expressive eyes that stand out as if traces of tears. Black spots all over the body contrast with the golden or silvery sheen of the fur, and their ears are very large, especially in relation to the size of the head. They are the tallest domestic cat breed on earth and have the honor of being the holders of the world record as the “Tallest Cat” in the Guinness Book of Records. They are playful and sociable, like to take part in various games with people and other animals. Your Savannah may just resent you if she is deprived of playing with her family. Many owners successfully lead their Savannahs on a leash because they like to be outdoors.
Any breeder who respects himself and his work tries to achieve the perfect balance between an exotic appearance and a calm, affectionate temperament. Create a cat that looks like a serval, but does not behave like a wild pet.
Life span: 11– 20 yearsWeight: 6 – 11 kilograms pounds;
Savannas are very energetic cats, so they need daily exercise. Combining physical exercise with very early socialization is the best strategy for raising healthy and well–behaved Savannah cats.
These cats are both very intelligent and innately curious, so sometimes they get into trouble if they are left idle for too long. That’s why their owners should strive to keep them active – playing a lot of games and training them is a winning combination. With proper upbringing, Savannah cats behave like dogs, not cats, in the sense that they become affectionate, friendly and love communication.
Many owners say that owning a Savannah is like owning a dog. They are very devoted to their family, and although at first they can be reserved with strangers, very quickly they become friendly and affectionate. Like dogs, savannahs can learn to correctly execute many commands, both simple and complex, because they are very intelligent.
What are the “Generations” of Savannas? This term refers to the number of pairs removed from the serval cat. Generations are necessary for breeders, because Savannah cats are infertile until they contain less than 10 percent of the exotic genes of their Serval ancestor. The use of other breeds to accelerate the dilution of wild genes is contrary to the rules of the International Cat Association (TICA).
Savannah received the status of TICA champion in 2012 and can be represented at TICA exhibitions. There are four generations of Savannah Hybrids: F1; F2; F3 The fourth generation is called SBT Already it and subsequent generations make up a pure breed of Savannah.
What is a purebred Savannah? This term means that a cat has three generations of Savannahs in its pedigree in a row. This is the most advanced breed, and it can be exhibited at TICA exhibitions. They are ideal for owners acquiring Savannahs for the first time, because their behavior is most similar to the behavior of domestic cats. Their classification is called SBT, and that is how they are known and registered in TICA. They are also called SBT Savannas. Hybrid Savannas have Hybrid infertility: This happens when a crossbreed cannot reproduce due to its genetics. Even Joyce Srouf, who was the first to breed this breed, could not successfully breed a fertile male until five generations had passed.
The nutrition of the Savannah is the same as that of any domestic cat. Store-bought food mainly consists of filler and is largely unsuitable for any cat. The filler causes osteoporosis and other bone problems in cats. Because savannah cats grow so fast, they need a balanced diet containing all the necessary vitamins and minerals. For F1 Savannas, a diet with completely raw meat of various types is preferred. After all, she is more than half Serval. For the remaining generations, you can use factory feed. The main thing is that the cat itself began to eat them.
The ears of your hybrid savannah cat are one of its most distinct and unusual physical features. The ears should be the same as those of a serval cat. They have the largest ears of any feline, wild or tame, relative to the size of their head. Ears should stand up straight and have rounded tips. The bases of the ears should be in line with the head. Ideally, the inner base of each ear should be located on the top of the head. It is often possible to draw a straight line from the corners of the eyes to the inner base of the ears.
Savanna F1 and F2 have drawings in the form of “eyes” on the back of their ears, which they inherited from their wild ancestors. It is believed that these high-contrast markings are designed to scare off predators in the wild, because in the dark they resemble the eyes of predator enemies. The color of these eyes in hybrids is often less clear than in their wild counterparts, for example, black with brown, and not black with white, but this is not considered a disadvantage.
Solid dark spots cover the coat, but do not connect. A series of stripes running from the back of the head to the shoulder blades fan out somewhat along the back. Smaller spots can be found on the feet and shins, as well as on the face. The coat is thick and short, can be rough to the touch or soft. The belly is light. Savannas are black, smoky, brown and silver. Acceptable colors are the same as those of the African serval. The color that is most often found in African servals is a rich, soft golden with black spots. This golden-brown shade is rightfully registered as a brown spotted tabby.
Savannah’s eyes are one of her most striking physical features. They should be medium-sized and located below the slightly overhanging eyebrow line. The color of the cornea may be yellow, like a hawk. Green – the color of the sea wave. All eye colors are acceptable to TICA and have nothing to do with the color of the coat. Since Savannas are so tall and skinny, people easily mistake them for bigger and heavier than they really are. In fact, they usually weigh from 6 to 12 kilograms, depending on what they are fed and how often. They should be kept fit and lean, which makes them much happier pets.
No cat breed is hypoallergenic, just like savannas. A popular misconception is that people are allergic to fur, it’s not, it’s saliva.
